²This is as it should be: all really competently designed and constructed amplifiers should sound the same — and for all practical purposes they should be perfect ‘wires with gain’ (up to their design limits). Although designing and building such an amplifier from scratch is not a simple task even today, there are components which do make it easy — e.g. LM3886 devices or Class D amplifier modules, such as those from Hypex. If two channels at modest power is what is required, though, it would be difficult to do better than the Denon. The LXmini design requires four channels, so that would be a reason to build the S-2020-A component.
